CENTRAL CIRCUIT

Minas Center

Arriving directly to the city center, is Plaza Libertad (Freedom Square).

Has at its center a fountain, with the statue to Juan Antonio Lavalleja in the middle.

The monument overlooks the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, which although is in front of the square, at the end of one of the four wide streets leading to it.

To celebrate 100 years of the monument were made in Lavalleja several maintenance works, including garden and lighting, which enhances even more its beauty. Facing the square are several emblematic buildings that are part of the history of the city, such as police headquarters and Minas Club.


Confectionery Irisarri 

Located opposite the Plaza Libertad, it carries the weight of town history.

Was established in 1898, starting cooking and selling artisan breads and masses. Talk of Lavalleja stands Irisarri and their typical serranitos, damasquitos, yemas and alfajores. Together with his eponymous gallery, is a meeting point of Minuan society and tourists who visit their original wineries.


House of the Culture

It is the seat of several museums. On the inside is preserved the birthplace of the hero Juan Antonio Lavalleja.

The gaucho Museum comprises components donated by the surroundings urban and rural Society. 

Eduardo Fabini Museum contains original works, instruments, awards received by the artist, and various personal effects. 

In the Lavalleja Museum are historical documents, weapons and uniforms of the emancipation period

El The City Museum has multiple pieces and antiques of the city, and has two rooms dedicated to Santiago Dossetti and Juan José Morosoli.

Museum Old Mill

Emblemático edificio que data de 1879, cuando funcionaba como molino industrial (Molino Ladós), y que a través de los tiempos pasó por ser asiento del Cantón de Fuerzas del Gobierno (1897 y 1904), Centro de Instrucción de Oficiales de Reserva (1963), Cuartel General de la División de Ejército IV (1969), Liceo de Educación Secundaria (1982). A través del recorrido se puede conocer toda su historia, y una muestra numismática evocativa de dos siglos de una sociedad reflejada en el agro y la industria.

Emblematic building dating back to 1879, when functioned as industrial mill (Molino Lados), and through the times became the seat of the Canton of the Army Forces of the Government (1897 and 1904), Center of Instruction of Reserve Officers (1963), General Headquarter of the Division IV of the Army (1969), school of secondary education (1982). Through the tour you can learn throughout its history. A sample numismatics evocative of two centuries of a society reflected in agriculture and industry.

Lavalleja  Theatre

This one is another key point in the culture of the Department. Opened in 1909, and restored in 1989 presents a remarkable architectural work. 

Inside works the Museum of Humor and Cartoon, dedicated to graphic humor and cartoons, unique in the country, and in his room with a capacity for 500 people display the most varied local, national and international shows.

Museum of miniatures Horacio Chocho 

Replicas of heavy machinery, carpentry tools, blacksmith shop, bakery, mills, old vehicles, carriages, carts, equipment for highway construction and agricultural. The functionality on each of them are emphasized in details. 

The visit is led by its own creator who refer anecdotally to the stories about each one of his creations.
